This course provides delegates with the Knowledge and practical skills required to sign, light and guard streetworks and roadworks in line with the New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991, revised 2002 Code of Practice (NRSWA). This course is for a novice worker and covers the setting out of traffic lights, signs, cones and barriers over the course of two days.
This course provides training in:
- Carrying out site surveys to determine requirements for the site location
- Providing safe passage for pedestrians
- Minimising disruption and ensuring the safety of vehicular traffic
- Making provision for ‘special needs’
- Assessing the size of ‘working space’ necessary for all plant and equipment
- Carrying out on-site risk assessment and establish a safe system of working
- Selection and use of PPE
- Setting-up temporary footways, traffic lanes and safety zones
- Checking equipment is fit for use
- Accurately positioning SLG equipment on site
- Removing SLG equipment following a safe system of work
- Inspecting and testing portable traffic signals
- Correctly positioning signals at the site location
- Correctly commissioning and de-commissioning signals
- Correctly adjusting signal controls to suit varying traffic conditions
- Adopting safe working practices
- Providing sufficient underpinning knowledge evidence by way of oral or written questions
This course is a two day novice course.
This course is for those delegates who work in the roadways and use road signs and traffic lights to protect motorists, pedestrians and the workforce in the highway with little to no previous experience within the new roads and streetworks industry.
Delegates successfully completing the course will receive a City & Guilds Accredited Certificate valid for 5 years.
