HSS Training reflect on the construction and electrical market trends as they continue to react to the needs of the industry with their training.
According to the office of National Statistics as of November 2022 ‘monthly construction output is estimated to have flat growth.’ Although the construction industry has remained flat, we can see from other projections that the electrical market has continued to thrive. IBISWorld predict that the UK business growth for electricians in 2023 is estimated at 3.6%. We would then expect to see an uptake in the industry with registered technicians to meet the demands of this growth. However, through their own experience HSS Training are aware that there is a shortage for registered electricians across the country. This is supported by statistics from Statista which predict that the ‘number of electricians and electrical fitters employed in the UK has been fluctuating… in 2019, there were roughly 259,000’ electricians which continued to decrease year on year.
We can approximate some of the boom in this market to the drive for renewable energies and the government’s demand to reach ‘Net Zero’ by 2050. The introduction of solar panels, electrical vehicle charging points and heat pumps to combat the effect of fossil fuels and lower our carbon emissions has seen a spike in the number of technicians required across the UK to meet demand. IBISWorld estimates that the renewable electricity generation market size will hit $8.5 billion in 2023 up 13.4%. HSS Training are acutely aware of these changes and how they will affect technicians over the coming years. With this in mind we have bolstered our course offering to ensure all technicians have the opportunity to upskill. Despite the shortage of installers not only in the renewable sector but across the electrical field we have continued to strive for a wide range of courses to ensure that all technicians are compliant and up to date with relevant legislation and best practice.
