This course aims to help develop delegate’s knowledge of health and safety legislation to comply with pesticide regulations and provides the skills to effectively handle, apply, and store pesticides using hand-held applicators. Pesticides are widely used in agriculture and horticulture, but they can be potentially harmful substances, so a thorough appreciation of safe working practices is vital.
This is a hands-on course that includes both theory and practical elements which supply sufficient training to comply with pesticide regulations.
By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:
• Understand your duties under the law and become a safe and competent pesticide user.
• Understand what pesticides are and their ‘field of use’.
• State legislation relevant to pesticide application.
• Interpret and use label information.
• Take the appropriate action to protect yourself and the environment.
• Store and transport pesticides safely.
• Dispose of the pesticides and containers safely
• Identify and describe how hand-held applicators work.
• Identify and select nozzles for various applications.
• Achieve the required spray quality.
• Carry out pre-start checks.
• Record information.
Anyone with an interest or employment in agriculture, forestry, or horticulture who currently uses or wishes to use hand-held applicators. Due to the nature of the training a minimum level of fitness will be required for specific operations. Whilst we would not want to disadvantage you as a learner, it is an essential requirement.

Upon completion of this course, delegates will receive a LANTRA accredited certificate that does not expire. However, it is advised and is business best practice that delegates attend a refresher course every 5 years.
