This course aims to provide delegates with the skills required to operate an Excavator 360° safely.
It is suitable for operators of all abilities and those who have previously received no formal training or instruction.
The course is delivered through a combination of classroom-based theory and practical hands on training.
Upon successful completion of this course, delegates will be able to:
- Name and explain the purpose of principal components, the basic construction, controls and terminology
- Conform to manufacturer’s requirements as per the operator’s handbook,
- Other types of information including the sourcing of relevant regulations and legislation
- Undertake all pre-use checks
- Configure and ready for site and highway travel
- Travel over rough, undulating ground, steep inclines and level surfaces
- Manoeuvre in confined spaces
- Configure and set-up for excavating duties
- Explain actions required for hazards, underground and overhead services
- Excavate differing types of excavations in various types of ground
- Place materials into transporting vehicles and hoppers
- Grade, spread and level ground and materials
- Attach and remove buckets
- Lift, move and place basic slung loads with the rear boom
- Carry out shut down and securing procedures
- Explain the loading and unloading procedures for machine transporting
Duration
Novice delegate – 10 days
Experienced Worker Test – 1 day of testing
This course is suitable for any delegate wishing to gain a NPORS Excavator 360° operations certificate.
Experienced workers, categorised as those with having either 18 months provable work experience and/or 6 months consistent daily experience in the category, will be able to undertake a Experienced Workers Test (EWT). Completion of a EWT will allow experienced workers to take the NPORS Theory and Practical tests required for a NPORS certificate.
Prerequisites
Traditional NPORS card
• Novice – No pre-requisites
• Experienced Workers - either 18 months provable work experience and/or 6 months consistent daily experience in the category.
NPORS / CSCS Card
In addition to the above, delegates must have an in date relevant CITB Health, Safety and Environment Touchscreen Test. Failure to attend with this qualification may result in you being denied entry to the course and forfeiture of all fees.
A good understanding of spoken and written English is also required.

Traditional NPORS Card – Refresher training is advised every 3 years.
Upon successful completion of the course delegates applying for NPORS / CSCS Card will be awarded an NPORS Red Trained Operators Card valid for 2 years. During this time delegates will need to be registered for a relevant NVQ. on successfully completing the NVQ, delegates will be awarded a Competent Operators Card valid for 5 years. A CPD record / operator logbook will also be issued which will need to be kept up to date.
