On successful completion of this Legionella Responsible Person Training Course, you will develop or reinforce your knowledge of:
- The legislation, Health and Safety at Work Act, HSE ACoP L8 & HSG274 part 1 and part 2
- The role and duties of the Responsible Person and Duty Holder
- The Legionella compliance requirements of your organisation
Theory
- Pre-course assessment of the awareness of legionella to refresh knowledge
- Awareness of cooling systems
- Know the importance of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and relevant sections
- Know the importance of the COSHH regulations and relevant sections
- Know the reporting of legionnaires disease under RIDDOR
- Understand the Consultation with Employees Regulations 1996 & Notification of cooling towers and evaporative condenser regulations
- Know the roles of the Responsible Person/s and Duty Holder
- Know what should be included in the Legionella Risk Assessment
- Know when a Legionella Risk Assessment should be reviewed and why
- Know what makes a person competent and the importance of training
- Know the HSE guidance documents
- Understand the primary aim of the Legionella Control Association
- Know what is in a written/control scheme and how to implement it
- Know the importance of water system design and commissioning
- Know the Water Regulations in relation to legionella control
- Understand the importance of a good schematic diagram
- Know how to interpret microbial sample results
- Know the importance of record keeping
- Know the process of cleaning & disinfection of cooling systems
This Legionella Course is designed for any member of staff who is or may become a Legionella Responsible Person, Deputy Responsible Person, or Duty Holder for premises that contain Hot and Cold Water, and Cooling Systems.

This will enable you to gain a City and Guilds certificate for hot and cold-water systems with cooling towers. BOTH courses MUST be completed and the Legionella Training: Responsible Person course MUST be taken BEFORE attending the legionella training: Responsible Person Including Cooling Towers course.
IMPORTANT: The above ONLY applies to remote courses and is NOT applicable to on-site or classroom training, where both sessions are completed back-to-back.
