This course will provide delegates with the essential knowledge and skills required to recognise sudden cardiac arrest and effectively operate an automated external defibrillator (AED) in order to respond to the emergency quickly, calmly and confidently. AED's are proven to save lives and are an invaluable addition to health and safety provision for employees in a workplace.
- Managing an unconscious, breathing casualty
- Causes of sudden cardiac arrest
- Heart attack - signs and symptoms
- Chain of survival - early response
- Managing an unconscious, non-breathing casualty
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Handover to emergency services
- Incident reporting
Demonstration:
- safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Those who have previous first aid training and hold a current valid First Aid at Work certification (3 day course).

Delegates successfully completing the course will receive a City & Guilds Award in Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator. We recommended requalification every three years.
